The deference between MD and MBBS:
MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) are both professional degrees in the field of medicine and are considered the first level of education for a practicing physician. But, these two degrees are awarded by different countries and have different educational requirements.
MBBS is an undergraduate degree awarded by medical schools in countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and other Commonwealth countries. The duration of the course is typically 5-6 years and includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. It covers a wide range of subjects including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, and surgery.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad-based understanding of the various aspects of medicine, as well as the practical skills necessary to diagnose and treat patients. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded the degree of MBBS and are eligible to practice medicine as a licensed physician.
MD, on the other hand, is a graduate-level degree awarded by medical schools in the United States, Canada, and some other countries. It typically takes 3-4 years to complete and is focused primarily on specialized training in a specific area of medicine, such as pediatrics, surgery, or radiology. This program is based on a more structured, specialty-based model of medical education, with a focus on a specific area of study.
To be eligible for an MD program, one must have already completed an undergraduate degree, usually with a focus in science, and have taken the required standardized medical entrance examination such as MCAT. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded the degree of MD and are eligible to practice medicine as a licensed physician, however they will have specialization in certain area of medicine.
In summary, MBBS is an undergraduate degree while MD is graduate degree, they have different duration, curriculum and eligibility criteria. MBBS is designed to provide a broad-based understanding of medicine, while MD is focused on specialized training in a specific area of medicine. MBBS is awarded in commonwealth countries while MD is awarded in US and Canada. Both degree holders are eligible to practice medicine as licensed physicians, but MDs have additional specialized training in a particular area.
